COLCHESTER NEEDS A ‘COLCHESTER’ MP

by leesmith on 23 May, 2024

COLCHESTER councillor Martin Goss has welcomed the summer General Election and says it is chance for the city to have a local MP again.

The Lib Dem parliamentary candidate has served on the council for 16 years and is battling to follow in the footsteps of pollical stalwart Sir Bob Russell who represented the constituency for 18 years between 1997-2015.

Conservative Will Quince is standing down and not seeking re-election and his party have decided to draft in James Cracknell. But Goss says the election on July 4th is now a great chance for the residents to have a local voice to champion Colchester once again.

Martin, 50, said: “Having lived in Colchester since the age of four, I deeply care about what happens here.

“As your next MP, I would fight to see the NHS fixed, so people can see their GP in a timely manner or get to see an NHS dentist by fixing the broken NHS contracts dentists are supposed to sign.

“Or deal with the cost-of-living crisis affecting local Colchester families by getting them a fairer deal.

“It is also important we challenge Anglian Water over the illegal discharge of sewage into our rivers. And, most importantly, finally listen to Colchester residents over the issues that really matter to them.”

The Liberal Democrats are on the up after beating the Conservatives at the May local elections and winning four stunning parliamentary by-election victories since the last General Election.

Martin added: “For years our area has been taken for granted by an out-of-touch Conservative Government that has failed to get the basics right and lurched from crisis to crisis – now it’s time for a change.

“Local health services have been brought to their knees, people’s mortgages and rent have skyrocketed and water companies have been allowed to pump their filthy sewage into our rivers and beaches. All this by a Conservative Government more interested in fighting between themselves than standing up for the country.

“Every vote for the Liberal Democrats is a vote for a fair deal. It’s a vote for a party that will stand up for our community and our health services.”
